AL6XN round bars

The Ultimate Corrosion-Resistant Solution for Extreme Environments‌‌Material Introduction & Composition

AL6XN (UNS N08367), also recognized as Alloy AL-6X or simply AL6X, is a ‌super-austenitic stainless steel‌ engineered for unparalleled corrosion resistance in highly aggressive media.

Its innovative composition incorporates:

  • Nickel (Ni)‌: ≈24% (enhances corrosion resistance and stability)
  • Chromium (Cr)‌: ≈20% (provides excellent oxidation resistance and general corrosion protection)
  • Molybdenum (Mo)‌: ≈6.5% (boosts resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion)
  • Nitrogen (N)‌: Added to enhance strength and corrosion resistance without increasing carbon content
  • Low Carbon (C)‌: ≤0.03% (minimizes sensitization and intergranular corrosion risk)

Similar Grades‌:

  • UNS N08367 (USA), Alloy AL-6X (generic), 1.4501 (similar but not equivalent DIN grade)

Exceptional Performance Attributes

Outstanding Corrosion Resistance‌:

  • Superior to conventional 300-series stainless steels in sulfuric, phosphoric, and hydrochloric acids.
  • Excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and pitting corrosion.
  • Withstands high temperatures and corrosive environments simultaneously, making it ideal for harsh applications.

High Mechanical Strength‌:

  • Tensile strength: typically ≥690 MPa (100 ksi)
  • Yield strength: ≥480 MPa (70 ksi)
  • Maintains strength at elevated temperatures, enhancing its versatility in thermal cycling applications.

Excellent Weldability & Fabricability‌:

  • Compatible with standard welding techniques like TIG, MIG, and submerged arc welding.
  • Good formability in both hot and cold conditions, allowing for complex shape manufacturing.

Production Processes

AL6XN round bars are meticulously crafted through:

Melting & Casting‌:

  • Utilizes advanced melting techniques such as vacuum induction melting (VIM) or electric arc melting (EAF) to ensure high purity.
  • Continuous casting or ingot casting processes followed by hot rolling to form initial billets.

Thermal Processing‌:

  • Hot working at temperatures between 1100°C and 1250°C (2012°F to 2282°F) to shape and size the material.
  • Solution annealing treatment at 1010°C to 1150°C (1850°F to 2102°F) followed by rapid cooling to optimize microstructure.

Finishing‌:

  • Cold drawing, grinding, or polishing to achieve the desired surface finish and dimensional accuracy.

Diverse Applications

AL6XN round bars are indispensable in:

  • Chemical Processing‌: Reactors, heat exchangers, and storage tanks exposed to highly corrosive chemicals.
  • Oil & Gas‌: Pipelines, valves, and downstream equipment in sour gas and high-temperature environments.
  • Marine Engineering‌: Offshore platforms, seawater desalination plants, and other marine applications requiring high corrosion resistance.
  • Power Generation‌: Flue gas desulfurization systems, nuclear reactor components, and other critical power plant equipment.
  • Food Processing‌: Equipment handling acidic or corrosive foods, ensuring hygiene and durability.

In demanding industrial environments, the integrity of a structure often depends on its smallest components: the fasteners. 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Bolts have emerged as the “workhorse” of the industry, offering a superior alternative to standard grades like 316. Understanding why we need these high-performance Alloy 2205 Bolting solutions requires looking at their unique chemistry, history, and the critical roles they play across global industries.

Manufacturing 904L bolts is significantly more difficult than manufacturing standard 304 or 316 grades. While 904L is highly ductile, its high nickel (25%) and molybdenum (4.5%) content make it extremely tough and prone to rapid work-hardening,  When welding 904L studs or components, use matching filler metals (e.g., 20 25 CuL) and avoid pre-heating to prevent hot cracking. Use Tri-Roll Thread Comparators and calibrated gauges to ensure precision, as 904L is prone to galling (seizing) during assembly if threads are not perfect.

In the demanding industrial landscape of 2026, the integrity of a project depends entirely on the fasteners used. Whether securing a jet engine component operating at extreme temperatures or erecting an offshore wind turbine, the choice of material and specification is critical for safety, longevity, and performance.
As a premier manufacturer, we specialize in high-precision fastening solutions tailored for extreme environments, featuring advanced materials like Incoloy A286.
